The last section is a short walk, and the pool at the base is a popular spot for a cold, refreshing dip when the flow is safe.
Shanti Falls

Around 10 kilometres from Kemmangundi on the ghat road, kalhatti falls tumbles down about 120 metres beside an old Veerabhadra temple built partly into the rock. Local tradition links the falls to the sage Agastya. It is an easy stop on the way up or down and is especially lively during the monsoon.
Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Lakkavalli Dam
Below the Kemmangundi hills lies the Bhadra Tiger Reserve, one of Karnataka’s better-protected forests, with gaur, elephants, leopards and a rich variety of birds. Safaris start from the Muthodi side and near Lakkavalli, where the Bhadra dam forms a large reservoir popular for its backwater views. Book safari slots ahead during weekends and school holidays.
Mullayanagiri
At around 1,930 metres, Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka. A road reaches close to the top, followed by a flight of steps to a small temple and panoramic views across the Western Ghats. It lies on the Chikmagalur side of the range and is often combined with Seethalayanagiri and Baba Budangiri on the same day.
Baba Budangiri
This peak is where, according to tradition, the Sufi saint Baba Budan planted the first coffee seeds in India in the seventeenth century, having brought them from Yemen. The shrine on the hill, the Shri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah, is revered by both Hindu and Muslim devotees. Manikyadhara Falls, a short distance away, is a popular stop on the same road.
Amruthapura Amriteshwara Temple and Ayyanakere
Near Tarikere, the Hoysala-era Amriteshwara Temple at Amruthapura, built in 1196, is known for its fine lathe-turned pillars and carved friezes. On the Chikmagalur side, Ayyanakere is one of the oldest man-made lakes in Karnataka, set against the Shakunagiri hill. Gubbi was home to the Gubbi Company of Gubbi Veeranna, one of the most influential drama companies in the history of Kannada theatre. From here the highway leaves NH48 behind and turns north-west onto NH206, and the land becomes greener with areca and coconut plantations on both sides.
Coconut Capital of Karnataka
Tiptur is famous for its copra market, one of the largest in the country, and the town is surrounded by some of the best coconut plantations in the state. Local shops sell fresh tender coconuts, coconut sweets and cold-pressed oil, which make good gifts. Nearby Aralaguppe has a small Hoysala temple for travellers with time to spare. Tiptur is a natural tea halt. Elapsed time: roughly two and a half hours.
Crossroads of Chikmagalur District
Kadur is the first town in Chikmagalur district on this route and a busy road and rail junction. From here, Kemmangundi is about 40 kilometres away. Ayyanakere and Sakharayapatna are reachable to the west, and the Western Ghats begin to appear on the horizon. Fuel up at Kadur if the tank is below half, since stations become sparse further up.
Gateway of Malnad
Tarikere is where the dry plains give way to the green, rain-fed Malnad country, and the town takes its name from the many water tanks that surround it. The bangalore to kemmangundi distance is approximately 255 to 270 kilometres via Tumakuru, Tiptur, Kadur, Birur and Lingadahalli. A bus takes 6 to 7 hours including breakfast and the ghat climb. The alternate route via Chikkamagaluru is about 300 kilometres.
Kemmangundi itself is a hill station and does not have a Jain Mutt of its own. The nearest major Jain centre is the Simhanagadde Jain Mutt at Narasimharajapura, about 70 kilometres away, and the Humcha Jain Mutt lies further west. Our Jain Heritage package combines the Kemmangundi hills with both.

Cancelling more than 7 days before departure carries no charge, with the full advance refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 4 and 7 days the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 48 hours and 4 days 25 percent, between 24 and 48 hours 50 percent, and under 24 hours 75 percent. Multi-day outstation hire needs a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund.
