Around 26 km away near Ambalavayal, Edakkal is not a true cave but a cleft formed by a split rock, with carvings believed to date back thousands of years. The final climb is steep, so wear good shoes. The site usually closes on Mondays and caps daily entry, so arrive early.
Lakkidi View Point
Sixteen kilometres from Kalpetta at the top of the Thamarassery ghat, Lakkidi gives sweeping views over the hairpin bends and valleys toward Kozhikode. Nearby stands the Chain Tree, linked to the local legend of Karinthandan, the tribal guide who is said to have shown the British the route up the ghat.
Soochipara Falls
About 22 km away, also called Sentinel Rock Falls, Soochipara drops through three tiers into a pool surrounded by forest. It is at its best just after the monsoon. The Meppadi area was affected by the 2024 landslides and access to spots here has been restricted at times, so we check the current position before recommending it.
Karapuzha Dam
Roughly 15 km from Kalpetta, Karapuzha is a quieter alternative to Banasura with landscaped gardens, walking paths, and an adventure zone with zip lines and rope activities. A good afternoon stop on the way to Edakkal.
