Chembra Peak

Banasura Sagar Dam
Around 21 km away, Banasura Sagar is the largest earth dam in India. The reservoir is dotted with small islands formed when the valley flooded, and speed boat rides give the best view of the Banasura hills behind. Go in the morning, before the mist lifts completely.
Pookode Lake
A natural freshwater lake about 15 km from Kalpetta near Vythiri, surrounded by evergreen forest. Pedal boats, a short lakeside walk and a small aquarium make it an easy stop for families with children, and it fits neatly into a Lakkidi visit.
Edakkal Caves
Around 26 km away near Ambalavayal, Edakkal is not a true cave but a cleft formed by a split rock, with carvings believed to date back thousands of years. The final climb is steep, so wear good shoes. The site usually closes on Mondays and caps daily entry, so arrive early.
Lakkidi View Point
Sixteen kilometres from Kalpetta at the top of the Thamarassery ghat, Lakkidi gives sweeping views over the hairpin bends and valleys toward Kozhikode. Nearby stands the Chain Tree, linked to the local legend of Karinthandan, the tribal guide who is said to have shown the British the route up the ghat.
Soochipara Falls
About 22 km away, also called Sentinel Rock Falls, Soochipara drops through three tiers into a pool surrounded by forest. It is at its best just after the monsoon. The Meppadi area was affected by the 2024 landslides and access to spots here has been restricted at times, so we check the current position before recommending it.
Karapuzha Dam
Roughly 15 km from Kalpetta, Karapuzha is a quieter alternative to Banasura with landscaped gardens, walking paths, and an adventure zone with zip lines and rope activities. A good afternoon stop on the way to Edakkal.
Puliyarmala Jain Temple
Only about 6 km from town, the Ananthanatha Swami Temple reflects the long Jain history of Wayanad. It is small, peaceful and rarely crowded, and the stone carvings reward a short visit on your arrival or departure day.
Kanthanpara Falls
About 22 km away, Kanthanpara is smaller than Soochipara but far less crowded, with an easy walk down to the water. A good choice for older travellers and families who want a waterfall without a difficult trail.

A few kilometres on, Ramanagara is known as the Silk City of Karnataka for its huge silk cocoon market, and its granite hills are famous as the backdrop of the film Sholay. Rock climbers and trekkers use the same hills on weekends. If the group is hungry early, this is the stretch to eat.
Home of the Maddur Vada
Channapatna, around 62 km from Bangalore, is the Toy Town of Karnataka. Its lacquered wooden toys, made from ivory wood and coloured with natural dyes, carry a GI tag and are sold in small workshops along the old highway. Ask your driver to stop at one where you can watch the lathe work. Maddur follows, the town that gave its name to the Maddur vada, a crisp, onion-rich snack that pairs well with filter coffee. With the expressway these towns pass quickly, so decide in advance which ones you want to visit.
Island Fortress of Tipu Sultan
Mandya is the Sugar City of Karnataka, surrounded by sugarcane fields fed by the Cauvery canals. Beyond it lies Srirangapatna, the island town formed by the Cauvery that served as Tipu Sultan's capital. The fort ramparts, the Ranganathaswamy Temple, Daria Daulat Bagh summer palace and the Gumbaz where Tipu is buried are all within a short loop. Allow 60 to 90 minutes if you want to include it, and remember that a stop here pushes your forest crossing later, so start earlier from Bangalore.
City of Palaces
Mysore, the City of Palaces, is the halfway mark and the last large city before the forest. The expressway ends here and your driver moves onto NH766 via the ring road. If you are making a day of it, Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and the Devaraja Market are all possible, though most Kalpetta travellers save them for the return. The bangalore to kalpetta distance is approximately 280 kilometres via the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway to Mysore and NH766 through Nanjangud, Gundlupet, Muthanga and Sulthan Bathery. Yes. Kalpetta is in Kerala, so a Karnataka to Kerala permit is required, and it is checked near the border at Muthanga. We arrange the permit before departure and bill it at actuals as a separate line in your quote. You do not need to do anything at the check post.
