Places to Visit in Lakkundi

Kasivisvesvara Temple
The finest building at Lakkundi and one of the finest Kalyani Chalukya temples anywhere - a twin shrine with the Kasivisvesvara facing a smaller Surya Narayana temple across a shared court, so the two look at each other. The doorframes and the pierced stone windows carry carving of a density that repays close and slow attention, and the tower is a late Chalukya form worked with real confidence. Visit in the morning when the light reaches the east face. Allow an hour, which is more than most people give it and less than it deserves.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumakuru
Kalpataru Nadu
The route leaves Bangalore northwest on NH 48, and the Nelamangala junction is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM, since four corridors diverge there and it builds fast on weekend mornings. Beyond Nelamangala the highway is six-lane and quick. Tumakuru is the Kalpataru Nadu, the land of the wish-fulfilling tree, which here means coconut - the district grows a great deal of it. The Siddaganga Math on the edge of town has fed and educated students free for generations and is worth knowing about as you pass.

Chitradurga
Fort of Seven Rounds
A hundred and thirty kilometres of fast divided highway across increasingly dry plateau. Sira is easy to drive past and worth a note: it was the seat of a Mughal subah in the early eighteenth century, the southernmost formal Mughal province, and the Jumma Masjid and the remains of the Khan Bagh survive from it. Chitradurga is the stop on this route. The fort climbs a granite outcrop in seven concentric lines of wall, using the natural boulders as part of the defence, and it is among the most impressive hill forts in India - the story of Onake Obavva defending a breach with a pestle belongs to it. Two hours does it justice. On a Lakkundi run our drivers stop here for breakfast whether or not you climb.
Haveri
Confluence Town
Fast highway through the cotton and maize country of central Karnataka. Davangere built its name on cotton mills and keeps it now on the benne dosa - butter dosa - which is genuinely worth stopping for and which most travellers on this road do. Harihar follows on the Tungabhadra with its twelfth-century temple to Harihara, Vishnu and Shiva in a single image. Byadgi, near Haveri, is the chilli town: the deep-red GI-tagged Byadgi chilli is grown and traded here and prized across India for colour rather than heat, and in season the yards are a striking thing to pass. This whole stretch is agricultural trading country and the highway reflects it.
Lakkundi
Town of a Hundred Stepwells
Hubballi is the commercial and railway hub of north Karnataka and the largest city on this route after Bangalore. From here the road turns east toward Gadag through open Deccan country - flat, dry, with black cotton soil and very little tree cover, which is a completely different landscape from anything on our southern routes. Gadag holds the Trikuteshwara complex and the Saraswati shrine with its carved pillars, and Lakkundi is twelve kilometres beyond it. The village announces itself with nothing at all - there is no gate and no signage of consequence, and the temples simply begin appearing among the houses. Accommodation is at Gadag or Hubballi rather than Lakkundi itself. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 2:00 PM.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Lakkundi Route
Corporate Package
For Bangalore leadership teams and client delegations of twelve to seventeen heading north, and for companies with plant or dealer interests around Hubballi, Koppal and Gadag who want a heritage day added to a working trip. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, one named driver for the full multi-day trip and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles the arrangement end to end, including corporate urbania rental bangalore contracts for repeat movement.
Family, Heritage and Photography Package
The core booking here. Extended families and heritage societies of twelve to sixteen on a four to six day loop through Lakkundi, Gadag, Dambal, Itagi, Hampi and often Badami — planned around light and temple timings rather than driving hours. Photography groups are a real and growing share of this traffic: Lakkundi rewards early morning and late afternoon, the boot takes tripods and cases properly, and a small vehicle can be at the Kashivishveshwara at first light without moving thirty people. Tell us at booking if the group is shooting and we will build the day around the light.
Luxury and Occasion Package
The Urbania in its premium configuration, for milestone family trips, senior group travel and VIP movement where the vehicle is part of the occasion, and for urbania for wedding bangalore style guest transfers. Presented cleaned and detailed with the driver in formal attire. For groups wanting a car rather than a van, our luxury car rental bangalore fleet extends to Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce Ghost, and can run alongside the Urbania in a single booking.
Our Fleet in Bangalore
We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so if headcount shifts after booking we can usually move you across categories without restarting the process.
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van, the vehicle covered by this page
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, the standard-specification alternative at a lower rate
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for larger groups on the same corridor
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, though a full-size coach cannot reach Lakkundi’s inner lanes
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All vehicles are seated configuration, with recliner seats in the Urbania. On a route of this length we run in daylight with a hotel halt at Chitradurga, Hospet or Gadag rather than driving through the night.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book, and the quote itemises every line, so nothing appears for the first time at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where an itinerary crosses into another state
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
Lakkundi lies entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit applies unless the itinerary extends into Goa, Maharashtra or Telangana. ASI monument entry fees, where charged, are paid at the gate and sit outside our quote. Garage-to-garage billing is the standard basis across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore: the meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup and stops when it returns, and that is built into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you settle.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Lakkundi Urbania
The bangalore to lakkundi distance is approximately 430 kilometres on our recommended line via Chitradurga, Hospet and Koppal, or approximately 490 kilometres via NH48 to Hubballi and NH67 east. Allow 9 to 10 hours including halts. It is a long day, and most groups either break the outbound journey at Chitradurga or build Hampi in at Hospet and reach Lakkundi on day two.
Because road quality matters far more to a 45 seater than to a compact monocoque van. The Hubballi line is sixty kilometres longer but almost entirely four-lane, which is worth it for a coach. In an Urbania those two-lane stretches barely register, so the shorter Hospet line saves distance and fare and puts Hampi directly on your route rather than as a detour. If your group would rather have motorway comfort than the shorter road, say so and we will plan the Hubballi line instead.
Yes, and this is the main practical reason to choose it here. Lakkundi’s monuments are spread through village lanes that a full-size coach cannot enter, and several — the Manikeshwara temple and its stepwell among them — sit outside the village on the Hospet road. An Urbania moves between the clusters, which matters in a place with almost no shade and limited facilities at the ASI sites. For an older group or a hot-season visit, this is the difference between seeing Lakkundi and seeing part of it.
Urbania fare starts around Rs 35,100. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
Monocoque construction rather than a body on a ladder frame, so the ride is closer to a large car. Individual recliner captain seats instead of bench rows, standing headroom in the aisle, per-seat air conditioning vents and USB charging, and a separate rear boot for luggage and camera equipment. On a short city run the gap is hard to justify; on a 430 kilometre day across the Deccan with a dozen short hops between monuments, it is the difference clients mention afterwards.
Not at Lakkundi — the village has no tourist accommodation and very little food. Gadag, twelve kilometres on, is the nearest town with hotels and restaurants. If Hampi is in your itinerary, Hospet is the better base and puts you within an easy morning of Lakkundi, Itagi and Hampi itself. We plan the facilities halt at Gadag or Hospet immediately before the Lakkundi visit, because the ASI monuments have limited toilets, shade and drinking water.
November to February. This is the dry Deccan plateau, and April and May regularly pass 40 degrees with almost no shade among the ruins. If you must travel in the hot months, start at Lakkundi at first light and be finished by eleven — which a small vehicle makes easy and a coach does not.
Yes. Hubballi airport is 71 kilometres from Lakkundi, and we position an Urbania at the terminal for groups flying in from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad or Bangalore to run the circuit from there. It suits time-poor groups who want three days on the ground rather than two days of driving. Share your flight number at booking and the driver tracks live arrival status. The vehicle can drop back at Hubballi or continue to Bangalore at the end.
Yes, and this is how nearly all these bookings work. The same vehicle and driver remain with the group throughout — Lakkundi, Gadag, Dambal, Itagi, Hampi and onward to Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal if you extend north. Multi-day hire is billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry stage and we quote the entire trip as a single figure.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services — every vehicle is seated configuration, with recliner seats in the Urbania, and on a route of this length we run in daylight with a hotel halt rather than driving overnight. We also do not provide passenger insurance cover; passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, passenger count and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our force urbania hire enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
