Places to Visit in Kannur

St Angelo Fort and the Arakkal Museum
St Angelo Fort was built in 1505 by the first Portuguese viceroy, then held by the Dutch, sold to the Arakkal family, and finally taken by the British - a laterite triangle on a headland with a moat, bastions and a view over the Mappila Bay fishing harbour that is among the best in the city. Nearby, the Arakkal Museum occupies part of the palace of the Arakkal family, the only Muslim royal dynasty in Kerala, whose rulers held Kannur and the Lakshadweep islands. Visit both together in a morning. They tell the story of a coastline that was fought over by four European powers because of what grew inland.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Mysore
City of Palaces
The first three hours are the easiest of the day, on six-lane expressway that has transformed this stretch. Our drivers reach the pickup point fifteen minutes early and aim to be on the expressway before 6:15 AM, because on this route everything downstream depends on reaching the Nagarhole gate in good time. The towns are the most characterful on any road out of Bangalore. Ramanagara and its granite Sholay hills, still the largest silk cocoon market in Asia. Channapatna, where the lacquered toy lathes have turned for two centuries and where a twenty-minute stop is the single most requested addition on family bookings. Maddur and its vada. Mandya and the sugarcane country the Cauvery canals created. Mysore is where most groups take breakfast, and on this route it is also the last major city - after Hunsur the facilities thin out sharply, so it is the sensible place to eat properly rather than snack.

Hunsur
Timber and Tobacco Town of Mysore District
Forty-five kilometres north-west of Mysore on good two-lane road through farmland. Hunsur is a working market town built around timber, tobacco and the surrounding agricultural belt, and it also holds one of the larger Tibetan settlements in Karnataka at Bylakuppe nearby, though that lies off this particular line toward Kushalnagar. For this journey Hunsur matters as the decision point and the last reliable service stop before the forest. From here the road turns south-west toward the Nagarhole gate, and beyond that there is essentially nothing until Kutta - no fuel worth relying on, limited food, and patchy mobile coverage through the forest stretch. Our drivers fill up here as standing practice regardless of what the gauge says, and this is also where they confirm the schedule against the 6:00 PM gate closure.

Nagarhole
Rajiv Gandhi National Park
The road enters Nagarhole and runs roughly thirty kilometres through protected forest, part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and one of the finest wildlife habitats in the country. Elephant, gaur, spotted deer and langur are commonly seen from the road, and tiger and leopard are present though rarely visible. Speed breakers are frequent and speed limits are enforced. Two rules matter here. Traffic through the Nagarhole stretch is not permitted between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and two-wheelers are barred from this forest road entirely. There is no discretion at the gate. Road surface through and immediately after this section has historically been variable and is worth checking rather than assuming. Kutta, just past the exit gate, is the last Karnataka settlement and the only place between Hunsur and Mananthavady with water, food and toilets, so it is the natural short break even though most travellers would rather press on.

Mananthavady
Northern Capital of Wayanad
The Kerala border comes shortly after Kutta and the change is immediate - wider road, more traffic, and the dense evergreen character of the Wayanad plateau. Tholpetty, the northern range of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, is the first attraction on this side and safari jeeps cluster along the roadside here. Kattikulam follows, with the turn for Kuruva Island a few kilometres off the highway - a cluster of uninhabited river islands on the Kabini, reached by raft, and worth a half day if the itinerary allows. Mananthavady is the northern capital of Wayanad and the point where all the routes from Karnataka converge before the descent. It holds the tomb of Pazhassi Raja, the Kottayam ruler who led a guerrilla campaign against the East India Company across these forests for more than a decade before his death in 1805 - a significant figure in Kerala history and commemorated with a memorial and museum. It is also the last town of any size before the ghat, and a sensible place to stop.

Thalassery
Birthplace of the Indian Circus.
The Periya ghat carries the road off the Wayanad plateau down into Kannur district through forest, in a sequence of curves and a few genuinely sharp bends. It is a gentler descent than the Thamarassery churam on the Kozhikode road and generally less congested, but it is still a ghat and our drivers take it at a measured pace, in daylight wherever the schedule allows. The temperature climbs noticeably on the way down and the vegetation shifts from plateau forest to coastal Malabar within twenty minutes. At the bottom the road runs through Iritty and Koothuparamba toward the coast. Thalassery, when you reach it, deserves more than a pass-through: this small town gave India its circus tradition, hosted some of the earliest cricket played in the country, and produced the biryani that is the benchmark for the whole state. Thalassery Fort dates from 1708 and Overbury Folly gives a view over the town and sea. If you time the day to eat lunch here rather than in Kannur, you will have made the right decision.

Kannur
Land of Looms and Lore
The last twenty kilometres run north along the coast, passing Muzhappilangad and Dharmadam Island on the way, with the sea intermittently visible to the west. This is a densely settled coastal strip rather than open road, and progress is steady rather than fast. Kannur was the seat of the Kolathiri rajas and later the Arakkal dynasty, the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, and it was fought over by the Portuguese, Dutch, French and British in turn because of the pepper trade that came down from the hills behind it. Today it is a working coastal city known for its handlooms, its beaches and above all for Theyyam. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. For Kannur International Airport at Mattannur, note it sits inland roughly thirty kilometres east of the city, back toward the direction you came from, so airport drops are quicker than the city map suggests.

Urbania Packages for Every Group
Every quotation is built around what the group actually needs rather than picked off a fixed menu. The tiers below describe how we normally structure bangalore to kannur urbania enquiries on this corridor.
Family Urbania Package
The dominant booking here — families travelling to north Malabar for functions and visits, and families combining Wayanad with a few days on the Kannur coast. The 12 and 13 seater are the usual choice, with luggage capacity that an eight-hour run and a three-day stay both demand. We plan family journeys around the forest gate rather than around distance, since a late departure removes the shortest road from the options entirely. A Channapatna toy stop on the outbound leg costs twenty minutes and is the most requested addition. Child seats can be arranged with notice, and drivers on family bookings are selected for patience with the extended halts a long day needs. Our 13 seater urbania rent bangalore configuration is the most requested size on this route.
Theyyam and Cultural Urbania Package
A genuinely distinct booking type on this corridor. Theyyam runs at village shrines through the season from roughly December to April, and these are local events rather than ticketed shows — schedules are set kavu by kavu and are not centrally published, performances usually run through the night, and the locations are often small villages rather than named attractions. We arrange transport around whatever schedule you have confirmed locally, including the overnight running Theyyam frequently involves, and our drivers know the district well enough to find shrines a navigation app will not. Two practical notes: the late-night driver bata clause applies to overnight performances, and we state it in the quote up front. Tell us your dates as early as you can, because the good weeks fill.
Corporate and Wedding Urbania Package
North Malabar weddings bring a steady share of our traffic on this route, and they are group movements rather than single bookings — guests from Bangalore, multiple pickups, and a vehicle needed across several days rather than one. The Urbania is the natural guest-shuttle vehicle for this, and where a party outgrows seventeen we move to a minibus or coach. For corporate bookings, documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles standing accounts, and the wedding car rental bangalore service covers convoy and guest-shuttle bookings as one managed arrangement.
Luxury and VIP Urbania Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and travellers who want an eight-hour drive to be comfortable rather than merely completed. This tier draws on the 15, 16 and 17 seater end of the fleet with the full recliner and dual-zone specification, a chauffeur in formal attire where the occasion calls for it, and vehicle allocation confirmed by registration number rather than by class. On a route that combines expressway, a variable-surface forest road and a ghat descent, suspension and cabin quality are functional rather than cosmetic, and this is the tier we most often recommend where older passengers are travelling. See the luxury urbania rental bangalore fleet and the 16 seater urbania configuration. Note that the Kerala permit is charged by seating capacity, so we will show you both figures.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for the Bangalore to Kannur Urbania corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged, and everything inside it is stated before you confirm.
Advance payment: 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included in the Quoted Fare
• Toll and parking charges
• Interstate tax
• Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
• GST
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel cover where required. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences.
Three points matter on this route more than on any other in our set. First, the Kerala interstate tax and entry charges are quoted as a separate line at actual rather than folded into the base fare, and they scale with seating capacity, so a 17 seater carries a higher permit line than a 13 seater — we arrange the permit in advance so nothing is held up at the border, and we show the figure before you confirm. Second, if the routing changes on the day, whether from a poor surface report on the Nagarhole section or a late departure that forces the longer Gundlupet line, the additional kilometres are billed at the pre-agreed per-kilometre rate, and we tell you the likely difference between the two routes at the quotation stage. Third, the driver bata clause after 9:45 PM applies as normal and is worth reading carefully for Theyyam bookings, since performances routinely run through the night and the vehicle is with you for it.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels
• Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
• Share these details when you make contact:
◦ Travel date
◦ Bangalore pickup location — area or landmark such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, a hotel name or a tech park
◦ Destination or your full itinerary
◦ Number of passengers
◦ Preferred vehicle
• For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.
• For luxury vehicles such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Rolls-Royce, also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding or VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.
• On this route, tell us how many days the vehicle is needed at the far end and whether Theyyam or a wedding is the reason, since both change the schedule and the driver allocation.
Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.
• The quote clearly itemizes every charge:
◦ Vehicle hire rate — Rs/km or flat package
◦ Driver allowance — Rs 400 to 1,000 per day depending on vehicle class
◦ Applicable toll estimates
◦ Any interstate permit if applicable — Kerala for this route, Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati
• No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.
• For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.
• If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time — worth doing here, since the Kerala permit scales with seating capacity.
Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance
• Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone.
• A 20 percent advance payment confirms the booking.
• Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link.
• Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.
• Your confirmation includes, all in writing:
◦ Driver name and mobile number
◦ Vehicle registration
◦ Departure time

◦ Full billing breakdown
• For luxury vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class, the advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand — wedding season from November to February, and New Year.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kannur Urbania
The bangalore to kannur distance is around 320 to 340 km via Mysore, Hunsur, Nagarhole, Kutta, Mananthavady and the Periya ghat, which is the shortest line. The Gundlupet and Sulthan Bathery route runs longer at roughly 360 to 380 km. Either takes 7 to 8 hours 30 minutes with one proper halt, and a large vehicle is at the slower end of that. The Bangalore to Mysore stretch is fast; everything after Hunsur is slower than the map suggests because of forest speed limits, variable road surface and the ghat descent.
Urbania fare rates around Rs 27,900. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
Our Urbania fleet runs from 8 up to 17 seats, and as a working rule you should book one seat more than your headcount — on a 340 km run with three days of luggage, that rule matters more than usual. Groups of eight to ten take the 9 or 10 seater, eleven to thirteen the 13 seater, and fourteen to seventeen the 15, 16 or 17 seater. Above seventeen we move you to a minibus or coach. We do not operate a sleeper bus service. For overnight travel on this corridor we recommend either a Volvo or Benz seater coach from our 27 to 50 seater fleet, or an Urbania with a night halt at Mysore or Mananthavady.
The Nagarhole route is the shortest and the better drive, but traffic through the forest stretch is not permitted between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and two-wheelers are barred entirely. There is no discretion at the gate. Road surface between Hunsur and the Kerala border has historically been variable and is worth checking rather than assuming. For late departures, poor surface reports, or itineraries that include Wayanad anyway, we use the longer Gundlupet and Sulthan Bathery route, which carries its own Bandipur night closure from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. We confirm which road we are taking before you travel, not on the day.
Yes, comfortably, in daylight and driven at a measured pace. The Periya ghat is the descent from the Wayanad plateau into Kannur district — winding, forested, with a number of curves and a few genuinely sharp bends, but considerably gentler than the Thamarassery churam on the Kozhikode road and usually less congested. Our drivers on this corridor know it well. There is a third route into Kannur through Kottiyoor and the Palchuram section that is markedly steeper, and we do not use it in a large vehicle without a specific reason. What we will not do is take the ghat after dark on a schedule that has already slipped.
Yes, this route crosses into Kerala and an interstate permit applies. We arrange it in advance as standard practice on this corridor, so nothing is held up at the border. It is quoted as a separate line at actual rather than folded into the base fare, and it is worth knowing that the charge scales with seating capacity — a 17 seater carries a higher permit line than a 13 seater, which occasionally makes the smaller vehicle the better overall value for a group of thirteen or fourteen. We show you both figures at the quotation stage so the choice is yours rather than ours.
No, and we are firm about this. Muzhappilangad is the longest drive-in beach in Asia and vehicles are permitted on the sand, but driving conditions depend entirely on tide and sand, stretches can be soft, and a heavy people mover carrying fifteen people is exactly the wrong vehicle to find that out with. We park at the entrance and you walk on, which is what most visitors do in any case. Late afternoon into sunset is when the beach is at its best. If driving on the sand is a specific ambition, hire a light local vehicle for it and keep the Urbania on the road.
The main season runs roughly December to April, though the Parassinikkadavu Muthappan Temple performs Theyyam daily through the year and is the reliable option outside it. Performances at village shrines are local events rather than ticketed shows — schedules are set kavu by kavu, are not centrally published, and usually run through the night. We arrange transport around whatever schedule you confirm locally, including overnight running, and our drivers know the district well enough to reach shrines a navigation app will not find. Note that the driver bata clause after 9:45 PM applies to overnight performances and we state it in the quote up front. Book early; the good weeks fill.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms your booking and holds the specific vehicle for your date. The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and your confirmation includes the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time and the full billing breakdown in writing. For the Theyyam season, Onam, the north Malabar wedding months and long weekends, a higher advance may be requested and Urbania availability tightens well ahead of the date.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. The Kerala interstate permit is quoted as its own line at actual. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. If the routing changes on the day, the additional kilometres are billed at the pre-agreed rate and we tell you the likely difference between the two routes before you travel rather than after.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal travel cover should arrange it independently. On a route through forest country with a ghat descent we recommend it more strongly than on ordinary highway trips, and for a group a policy is usually inexpensive.
October to March for weather, and December to April if Theyyam is the reason for the trip — the two overlap conveniently. June to September is the southwest monsoon, when Malabar takes very heavy rainfall, the ghat sections are at their most demanding and Theyyam is largely out of season. The beaches are at their best from November onward, and Muzhappilangad in particular depends on tide and sand conditions that are far more reliable outside the monsoon.
