Mullayanagiri (also called Mullaiahna Giri) is the highest peak of Karnataka state located in Bababudangiri range of Chikmagalur district. Mullayanagiri is 12 km from Chikmagalur, 265 km from Bangalore and 107 km from Mangalore. Mullayanagiri is part of the Bababudangiri hill range of Western Ghats. The height of Mullayanagiri is 6330 ft. (1930 meters) from sea level and it is regarded as the highest peak between Himalayas and Nilgiris. There is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on top of the hill. The small hillock in the temple premises is the highest point in Karnataka. Nearby attractions are Kemmangundi, Bababudangiri, and Hebbe fall. Mullayanagiri is the trekker's paradise. Best Time to Trek: For most of the treks in Karnataka, best time will be September to February. You can even trek in summer but trek will be much harder. Better to avoid Rainy seasons.

Points to Remember Before Trekking:
• The route from Sarpadhari is steep and at times has a 60 degree incline. This trek is not right for any beginners.
• Mists cover in without notice in this area, and at times, visibility comes down to less than 10 m.
• The hillside is prostrate to heavy of wind, which adds to the chill factor.
• Wearing warm cloths and woolen caps are must.
• Trekking is not recommendable for people who have fear of heights.
• It is advisable for the trekker to carry enough bottles of water, beverages, and ready-to-eat food.

2. Sarpadhari

Day 2 Plan Tentative Schedule: 8 AM: Reach to Sarpadhari Trekking | 1 PM: Lunch Break | 6 PM: Return to Hotel.

Sarpadhari, is suited at a distance of 15 kms from Chikmagalur. Sarpadhari is Kannada word which refers to a snake, ‘sarpa’ stands for snake and ‘dhari’ for way. Mullayanagiri trek starts from the Mullayanagiri peak. You can either use transportation to reach the peak or you can also do a small trek of around 3-4 Ms. from the bottom to reach the Mullayanagiri peak. This trek starts from a place called Sarpadhari. The Sarpadhari trek to Mullayanagiri peak starts at this point called Mullayanagiri trek Starting Point. Sarpadhari trail is little steep sometimes. You also get to see the sunrise if you start early morning. The trek until Mullayanagiri peak takes around an hour.

3. Manikyadhara Falls

Day 3 Plan Tentative Schedule: 7 AM: Reach to Manikyadhara Falls | 9 AM: Reach to BabaBudangiri Peak | 1 PM: Lunch Break | 4 PM: Depart to Bangalore.

When sunlight falls on Manikyadhara, water droplets appear like sparkling pearls. 4. BabaBudangiri Peak

Day 3 : BabaBudangiri Peak, the complete trek distance from Mullayanagiri peak to the BabaBudangiri peak is around 9 Kms and it takes a time of around 5 hours if you or your group is speed enough. The trek is tiring, and it is advisable to undertake this journey in daylight. The route passes through the Bhadra Forest Reserve and sighting of wild elephants and bears is fairly commonplace. Adventurous souls can pitch camp on the hill side at Mullayanagiri and attempt the trek the next day. You might to take permission there or pay some forest department charges. Attigundi road is the same road which joins Mullayanagiri peak to the BabaBudangiri peak by road for vehicles. After you cross the forest department officials, the Mullayanagiri trek is mostly along the ridge. You will get to see the valley on one of the trail.
